Learn More About Spray Foam Insulation

Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) is one of the greatest and most durable insulation products on the market. It expands to fill cracks and crevices and offers many benefits to homeowners and builders.
  • Reduces heating and cooling costs up to 60%
  • Improves indoor air quality
  • Resistant to mold, mildew, and pests
  • Reduces outside noise
  • Adds structural strength
  • Creates an air barrier
RetroFoam offers a wide range of insulation products and makes recommendations based on the need. Though we can install most types of insulation, we specialize in the spray foam insulation Cedar Rapids, IA depends on for your home or business.

Save Up to 50% On Your Energy Bills

Spray Foam
Spray foam is energy efficient: Higher R-values than conventional insulation and a seamless air barrier reduce uncontrolled air leakage, resulting in lower energy costs. ABAA evaluated and approved for use in air barrier systems.

R-Value
Insulation is rated in terms of thermal resistance (R-Value), which indicates the resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulation effectiveness. Close cell spray foam has one of the highest R-values, 6.5 per inch, of all readily available, cost-effective insulations on the market.

Improve Indoor Air Quality
Controlling air infiltration greatly reduces or stops the entry of dust, pollen, and soil gasses like radon into your building. With a controlled environment in your home or office, you can live a more comfortable life, with less cleaning too.

Save Money
A building that has good insulation plus air infiltration control reduces the use of fossil fuels for energy, reduces the CO emissions that damage the environment, saves the owner money, and reduces the capital outlay for heating and conditioning.

Control Air Filtration
As infiltration is caused by leaks around windows and doors, or voids, joints, and cracks hidden inside the building structure. Uncontrolled air travels through the structure inside walls and ceilings, under base work, and along hidden pathways in the plumbing or electrical system. Even the most well-built buildings have seams and gaps that lead to air infiltration. National energy labs estimate that air infiltration wastes nearly half of every heating and cooling dollar.

Our Insulation Products

Our insulation products include closed cell foam, open cell foam, and injection foam. We can install insulation in a wide variety of space, including:
  • Walls
  • Floors
  • Ceilings
  • Foundations
  • Crawl spaces
  • New construction
  • Attics
  • Pole barns
  • Refrigeration units
  • Basements

Closed Cell Foam

With excellent insulating properties, close cell 2 lb. foam is sprayed onto walls as a liquid before expanding into a hard foam. Closed cell foam is completely air tight, moisture proof, guaranteed for the life of the homeowner, and actually adds strength to the building it is installed to.

Closed cell foam from RetroFoam Iowa is a two-component, HFC-blown (zero ozone-depleting) liquid spray system that cures to a medium-density rigid cellular polyurethane insulation material. This closed cell foam insulation contains polyols derived from naturally renewable oils, post-consumer recycled plastics, and pre-consumer recycled materials. This Class A (Class 1) fire-rated foam insulation meets the requirements of ICC-ES AC377 Acceptance Criteria for Foam Plastic Insulation. See Intertek Code Compliance Research Report CCRR-11043 for code compliant application information. It is a Type II foam in accordance with ASTMC1029.

Designed to provide high thermal performance, closed cell foam insulation is sprayed in up to four inch passes. Once sprayed, the foam insulation becomes an air-impermeable insulation, which makes it an integral part of an air barrier assembly.

The closed cell foam insulation performs well in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees F to 200 degrees and is a great tool to help conserve energy. It works well for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

Open Cell Foam

With good insulating properties, open cell 1/2 lb. foam is sprayed onto walls as a liquid before it expands into a soft foam. Many times, it is then trimmed even to the studs. Open cell foam structures are air tight without the rigidity of the closed cell foam. Open cell is also an excellent sound barrier.

Open cell spray foam from RetroFoam Iowa expands to seal all cracks, gaps, and joints with a single application. Unlike traditional fiberglass insulation, our open cell foam insulation will maintain its performance; time and temperature have no effect on the spray foam. Our open cell foam insulation never deteriorates or decomposes, but retains its shape and density over time, and it never settles or compacts compared to traditional fiberglass insulation.

Highlights of our open cell foam insulation:
  • Contains no ozone-depleting chemicals, gases, fibers, or asbestos
  • Cuts heating and cooling costs as much as 50 percent**
  • Minimizes outside noise, as airborne noise can no longer easily pass through walls
  • Less dust and allergens enter the environment due to the air tight seal
  • Maintains peak performance; it never deteriorates or decomposes
Our open cell foam insulation is in compliance with the International Building Code© (IBC), International Residential Code© (IRC), and International Energy Conservation Code© (IECC).

Spray Foam Insulation vs RetroFoam Wall Insulation

Spray foam insulation has taken the DIY home improvement world by storm! Whether you are scrolling through DIY Home Repair pins on Pinterest or watching your favorite home improvement show on the HGTV network, you are likely to see spray foam insulation on your screen at some point.

While spray foam insulation is a fantastic option for new construction, it’s not always ideal for existing homes. With spray foam insulation, insulating your existing walls results in tearing down your existing drywall – resulting in a lengthy and expensive process! Most homeowners don’t want to go through the hassle to get foam insulation; however, there is a foam insulation product designed specifically for existing walls!

RetroFoam is a unique foam insulation that is specifically designed to be injected into existing walls. Our RetroFoam is injected from the exterior of your home, making installation completely stress free! The benefits of RetroFoam are invaluable, including energy efficiency, lowering utility bills, a brief installation process and the best part…it costs less than you might think. Our team at RetroFoam Iowa wants to help you reap the benefits of foam insulation without going through the expensive hassle that spray foam insulation causes for existing walls!

An Energy-Efficient Choice

According to the Department of Energy, the average American spends $2,000 annually for their energy bill. Their studies have shown that a potential $200-400 of that average could be going to waste due to drafts or air leaks! RetroFoam has the answer to STOP the energy loss through your walls. Traditional insulation often breaks down over time, trapping dust and moisture, resulting in the inability to prevent air leaks. With energy costs expected to increase, RetroFoam will quickly pay for itself by reducing your utility bills.

A Hassle-Free Installation Process

Since RetroFoam is typically installed from the exterior, we can insulate most existing homes. Due to several factors, the installation process may vary slightly. Generally, a small section of your siding is removed and a hole is drilled in each stud cavity. Then, RetroFoam is injected into each cavity and afterwards, our install team will plug each of the holes. Finally, after cleanup is completed your siding is put back on.

Most installation processes can be completed in one day and the benefits are immediate! This quick and easy installation process eliminates the need for construction or movement of furniture, making this process hassle free.

A Cost-Efficient Insulation

While an exact cost of the installation of RetroFoam cannot be provided due to varying factors, we can briefly explain ways in which RetroFoam is THE cost efficient choice. RetroFoam can potentially pay for itself by saving you money on your energy bills–potentially lowering your energy costs by up to 50% with its excellent sealing qualities. Unlike spray foam insulation, it’s not necessary to tear out walls or remove old insulation, resulting in a significant cost drop and making RetroFoam the most cost-efficient choice for your insulation needs. RetroFoam insulation is the home improvement that PAYS YOU back!
